Ectoplasm

We're currently in the process of printing an A2 fold down poster zine as a self promotional tool. The zine will demonstrate some of our client work alongside personal work based on stuff on our website — anything to get the viewer to follow a link onto our site and find out more. The cover piece is titled "Cornflour + Low Frequency Sound = Ray Parker Jnr" and is based on a Flim Flam post of the same name.

In the mix

Last night we did a collaboration with Chris from Prime Objective at 7inch Cinema. We supplied the music to his great visuals. Went down really well — maybe something for the future. I snapped this pic of the man in action…

Zombie Slipmats

Earlier this year we hooked up with Root Designs to create a set of slipmats for them. We chose to use our Zombie Kids for the designs and on Friday we received a batch of them through the post. Sweet! They look great and will chill the boots of any mix master. You can buy the matt's from the Root Design website. Hot step over there and snag yourself a pair. They have a bunch of other designs from the likes of Jon Burgerman, Bard Hole Standal , Superdeux and Kenn Sakurai.

PS: On a Mac tip - I just hooked up Automator to export photos from iPhoto, resize and upload to our website news section. Big nerdy pat on the back for me!!

(Finally) Nintendo does some good marketing

I’m a big fan of Nintendo - always have been since the NES days. But up until recently, Nintendo’s marketing has always been slightly off the mark. At times they try to be cool but come across as out of touch, other times they just reinforce their status as a manufacturer of childrens games and consoles.

Their recent self reinvention has seen some positive changes in their marketing strategy. It’s now cool again to own a Nintendo product (not that being cool should matter - Nintendo make good products full stop). This recent campaign for retro game downloads floats my boat — big time!

As Seen In... Taschen Logo Design Book

We just received our copy of Taschen’s Logo Design book which we have a fair number of logos in. I never thought this book would come out as it’s been a good 18 months since we submitted our designs. All but one of the logos we sent in got used. Alas, our work for ZooFuku didn't make it — shame — we like that one a lot.

The ones that did make it look great though and I’m really chuffed that the logo we created for Walkie Talkie sits alongside one of my fave magazines — ReadyMade.

Library - 008

Overall the book is well put together with more emphasis on actual logos in comparisson with Dos & Tres Logos — which in my opinion feel more illustration based. This book is significantly cheaper too — well worth it in my opinion. Follow the link below to see all our logos featured.

MotionPortrait

This is a bit of a weird one — the site is all in Japanese but from what I can gather it looks like MotionPortrait are selling an avatar creation service from just a photo(?). Either way it’s quite fantasticly clever and freakish all at the same time. The montaged image below looks  normal enough but follow the link and see the lady in motion.

New Typeface — Creature Comfort

I’m currently working on a typeface for use within a set of promotional posters. The font is based inspired by the Hidden Robot photos I’ve been taking. Here’s a small schooling of the a-b-c’s.

Regular Product (aka Adam Cruikshank)

Our good friend Adam has sent me his new website full of super juicy & tasty artworks. It’s been a while since I saw an update from Regular Product (used to have a new site every 6 months back in the day) but the wait is worth it, the new site doesn't disappoint — it’s clean, friendly and shows off the work it houses. >>> Go take a long look.

More Hidden Robots

This little fella popped up on my hunt for Hidden Robots. He’s way cool. Check more out here and here...

Future Shocks

This is a building in the center of Birmingham. It’s got that whole post war concrete future shock thing going on. I’m not sure who lives inside but it should be an underground club or sleazy milk bar. Either way, I hope it remains standing. As the city regenerates itself with new glass greenhouses, buildings like this need to be preserved.
