SoulSonicCinema #3

This month at SoulSonicCinema we’ll be screening the 60’s classic, Point Blank. This is such a great film which has yet to be released over in the UK on DVD. Follow the link below the flyer to see some excellent alternative poster designs for Point Blank — the French version is too cool.

Also, by popular demand, we’ve added some of the trashy trailers we screened at SSC #2. Check them out — pure trash! Expect more of the same at SSC #3.

Walkie Talkie featured in Computer Arts

We missed this issue but found it today on the internet. Earlier this year we were asked to say a few words about Walkie Talkie Magazine which we art directed for Clarks Originals.

Another kind of magazine that doesn’t have to worry about distribution are the growing number of customer magazines. When Clarks wanted to produce a stylish customer magazine to promote its Originals range of shoes it went to Birmingham’s independent digital agency TAK. The end result was the sumptuous Walkie Talkie.

“Clarks wanted something different and they wanted it to be targeted towards their audience but not in an in-your-face way,” says TAK’s Dom Murphy. “The project was more about original thinkers, musicians and artists.”

As a result, Walkie Talkie’s design was deliberately low on branding and high on production values. “We designed it to look like a Clarks product and to look crafty. It’s not really similar to other magazines, it’s unique,” says Murphy. The 200,000 copies, printed and distributed internationally, primarily through Clarks outlets, art galleries and other fashionable places, were all gone within ten days.”

Too amazing for words....

Wow, check the wooden robots from the super talented Take-G. Sooooo coooool!

“Take-G toy’s is a ‘toy’ maker which mostly deals with wooden crafts hand-made by Takeji (Take-G) Nakagawa (actual toys which are sold online are restricted to Take-G blocks and zoo). My motto is to bring wooden beauty and quality into life in my own style.”

Iremba — design your own footwear

Iremba's sort of like a badly designed Threadless... but rather than design, vote for and purchase tee-shirts you errrm design, vote for and purchase footwear. You can currently only make pretty designs for vans slip-on style sneakers, but in the future they'll be expanding the syles available. Neat-oh!

The Internet is Fcuked?

The direction of the Internet could take a turn for the worse if recent proposals are successful. The age of free expression could be short lived.

State and local governments this week resumed a push to lobby Congress for far-reaching changes on two different fronts: gaining the ability to impose sales taxes on Net shopping, and being able to levy new monthly taxes on DSL and other connections. One senator is even predicting taxes on e-mail.
